Summary: | The B-727 was barely able to climb after taking off from Cotonou Airport. The landing gear struck a building housing electronics, crashed through the barrier fence and broke up along the shoreline adjacent to the airport. The plane was overloaded by 10 tons of cargo which was improperly distributed. The pilot was tried, convicted and sentenced to 20 years in jail by a Lebanese court. |
