Summary: | The jetliner, flying at 29,000 ft., was caught in violent downdrafts dropping the airplane 10,000 ft in four successive plunges before the pilot was able to regain control of the aircraft. Costa Rican publisher and former ambassador to the U.S. Ricardo Castro Beeche and another male passenger were killed when they were ejected out of their seats. Both had failed to fasten their seatbelts even after a warning ten minutes earlier. The plane landed safely at Grand Cayman Islands 40 minutes after the event. There was no apparent damage to the aircraft. |
