Summary: | The jet crashed in heavy fog outside of Almaty while attempting to land at Almaty Airport for a second time. The aircraft was found in swampy terrain about 1 mile short of the runway threshold. The accident occurred during the execution of a go-around, in instrument meteorological conditions, without the possibility of visual contact with ground reference points, the necessity of which was caused by the mismatch between the actual weather conditions and the minimum conditions for which the crew was certified to land. |
